I started Pilates to ease back pain (sciatica) and Body Works has been instrumental in helping me along the road to recovery. Working in the studio based classes is always fun and even on one of my 'bad days' there is always something I can do. I have seen a reduction in my symptoms and an improvement in my posture and strength, I am back working full time.

I have also on occasion required 'hands on' physiotherapy and acupuncture - booking appointments was quick and easy, no waiting around for weeks.

Would I recommend Body Works? -absolutely! I couldn't have done it without them.

Pilates is a unique and extremely versatile system of exercise that helps to improve body awareness, strength, flexibility and posture. Pilates and physiotherapy.

Pilates and physiotherapy are perfect partners. The aim of physiotherapy is to help people achieve maximum recovery from pain, injury, disability and weakness, and Pilates-based exercise offers an effective means by which to achieve this.

Pilates and mobility.

Pilates-based exercise is excellent for those who have experienced reduced mobility due to loss of strength, balance or confidence. The equipment in our Pilates studio can be set to offer assistance to the user, rather than resistance, thus allowing the therapist to create a rehabilitation programme that the client can feel comfortable with from the very start. Progress can then be carefully and safely structured to meet the needs of the individual. 

Pilates and performance.

Top sports people, particularly within fields such as football, tennis and golf, have long been aware of the performance enhancing value of Pilates-based exercise regimes. Within the world of elite dancing Pilates is virtually synonymous with good rehab practice. Whether you are seeking to improve performance or maximise recovery from injury Pilates can help you to achieve your goal. 

Pilates and pregnancy.

During pregnancy the body produces increased levels of a hormone called Relaxin, which has the effect of making the joints looser, especially in the pelvic region. This brings obvious benefits for child bearing and birth but combined with our postural change in pregnancy often results in low back and pelvic pain. Because Pilates is a  form of exercise which focuses particularly on the control of the deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, posture and alignment, it enables you to safely combat this. Post-natal Pilates offers similar benefits, as well as the opportunity to regain lost muscle tone. It can also help to reduce post-natal bladder weakness. 

Studio Sessions

Recommended if you require rehabilitation following injury or surgery. These sessions may form an integral part of a broader physiotherapy regime or may be prescribed as a course of treatment in themselves, depending upon the nature of the problem for which you require treatment.
Studio sessions are also appropriate for anyone who requires an individual programme designing in order to help them achieve specific goals. This might apply to an athlete seeking to improve performance or prevent injury, or to someone who feels they have lost confidence or mobility when carrying out everyday activities.  

Studio sessions complement the mat based programmes and are a great way to exercise if you are looking to add more variety to your weekly Pilates work out.

Mat Classes

Ideal if your primary interest is general fitness or if you are aware of the need to strengthen your lower back and abdominals. These classes are also excellent for anyone requiring post-natal strengthening and rehabilitation. You will learn the principles of Pilates through a series of mat-based exercises, which progress as you develop body awareness, strength, flexibility and coordination.
