I’m delighted to welcome two new physiotherapists, Jonathan and Ken, who have joined our evening clinic team. Both bring great experience, energy, and empathy to the Body Works family — and we’re thrilled to expand our evening appointments to make physiotherapy even more accessible.
I’m also proud to share that Dr Emma Sutton, who works with us on Wednesdays and Fridays, recently spoke at an international congress on fragility fractures and bone health — a topic close to my heart. At Body Works, we regularly help clients reduce their risk of falls and recover confidently after injury. Having seen the impact of falls within my own family, I know just how important prevention and early support can be.
And as we head into the festive season, if you (Like me!) find yourself struggling for ideas when it comes to Christmas gifts that really mean something. A Body Works Gift Voucher can be a thoughtful way to show someone you care — helping a loved one begin their own wellness journey, finally book that massage you’ve been encouraging them to try, or experience the benefits of Pilates or physiotherapy for
themselves.
Warm wishes,
– Theresa

Stronger Bones, Better Balance – Dr Emma Sutton’s Top Tips
Our very own Dr Emma Sutton, who runs clinics on Wednesdays and Fridays, recently spoke at the Global Fragility Fracture Network Congress in Porto, Portugal. Her talks focused on improving recovery and reducing hospital readmissions after hip fractures — and her advice applies to all of us aiming to stay active and independent as we age.
Here are Emma’s top tips for keeping your bones strong and your balance steady:
Keep your balance!
Balance training is one of the best ways to prevent falls — try standing on one leg using a countertop for support, and consider joining a class that includes balance and standing work, such as Tai Chi or Pilates. At Body Works, many of our mat Pilates and online Pilates sessions include standing balance and strength work to improve confidence on your feet, we even have a dedicated section of standing and balance exercises in our Online Library.
Boost your bone health.
Strong bones need regular weight-bearing activity (like walking, dancing and resistance training). It also may be worth checking with your GP about your calcium and vitamin D, as low levels can affect bone density. Be mindful of alcohol intake and smoking, as both can weaken bones over time.
Make your environment safer.
Simple changes at home — like removing loose rugs, improving lighting, or adding grab rails — can significantly reduce your risk of slipping or tripping. If you’d like to explore safe, effective ways to strengthen your body and improve your balance, you can book an appointment with one of our physiotherapy team or join one of our Pilates memberships.
