ANTENATAL & POSTNATAL PELVIC HEALTH MATTERS

Part 3 of our Women’s Health Series

In this final part of our series, I sat down with pelvic health specialist Siobhan to discuss two key services: Antenatal pelvic health appointments and the Mummy MOT. Many women don’t realise how beneficial these assessments can be— not just for recovery but for long-term well-being.

  •  Antenatal pelvic health checks help prepare your body for birth, address discomfort, and reduce the risk of complications.
  • The Mummy MOT is a postnatal assessment that supports recovery, strengthens your core, and helps prevent issues like incontinence or pelvic pain.

These appointments empower you with knowledge and guidance, ensuring you feel strong and confident in your body.

Watch our short video where we discuss antenatal & postnatal pelvic health checks as well as Mummy MOT.

At Body Works we provide personalised care to help you regain confidence, function, and comfort in your everyday life.  Pass on this newsletter to anyone you feel may be suffering or click below to book your appointment with us today.

“Regaining Confidence: A Pelvic Health Success Story”

“It can be embarrassing to talk about pelvic health, and seeking advice takes some courage, particularly if, as I did, you’ve had a humiliating experience at the hands of NHS staff.

So I approached my appointment with Siobhan with trepidation, but I need not have worried. She was friendly and relaxed and immediately put me at ease. Her gentle and unhurried examination was carried out with respect and a full explanation of what she was doing. A discussion of what she found and a suggestion of some exercises followed.

I came away smiling, enlightened, and immensely reassured that nothing serious was going on, and above all feeling empowered to take control. I thoroughly recommend Siobhan.”

WHY ARE THE HAMSTRINGS CALLED THE HAMSTRINGS?

A Pilates client recently asked me where the name ‘hamstrings’ comes from, and I was stumped! She later messaged me with this, so I thought I would share it with you:
The word “ham” comes from Old English “ham” or “hom,” meaning the hollow or bend of the knee. It later evolved to mean the leg of an animal.
“String” refers to tendons, specifically the string-like tendons you can feel at the back of your knee.
So there you have it! These group of muscles, situated at the back of the leg play a vital role in bending and straightening the knee, as well as stabilising the pelvis.

If your hamstrings (or any other muscles!) feel tight after long periods of sitting, a heavy gym session, or following a long hike, a sports massage can work wonders.

Here’s a recent client’s sports massage testimonial

“Joseph did a fantastic job. I was struggling to walk before, but after the session had finished, I had no muscle stiffness. Would 100% recommend.”

JOE’S 10KM-A-DAY CHALLENGE FOR BLOOD CANCER UK

Our very own Joe Lunn is taking on an incredible challenge—running 10km a day for five days straight (March 24th-28th) to support Blood Cancer UK.

Here’s what he had to say:
“So, I am doing something stupid, again… I have joined Will Findlay’s cause to raise money for Blood Cancer UK by running 10km a day for 5 days straight. The aim is to get 500 people involved, so if you want to join, sign up! If running isn’t your thing, please consider donating. Every little helps!”

Joe is no stranger to overcoming physical challenges himself — he had hip surgery last year and has faced numerous joint issues from his rugby days. The team at Body Works will be helping him stay in peak condition so he can train effectively and complete this challenge!
